An "A+" for effort

The Way To Get Ahead
by stu pidasso

Here in the hallowed Land o' Plenty
Where any and all have the chance to excel
I've kept one mindset since I was twenty
"Eat right, drink water, get sleep, go like hell!"

Some people go off to study at school
Others prefer to put a hammer to nail
Whether working with mind or handheld tool
"Eat right, drink water, get sleep, go like hell!"

But diligent effort alone won't get you ahead
Today's Man must be shrewd if he is to prevail
Up and at 'em as well as quick to bed
"Eat right, drink water, get sleep, go like hell!"

One does not need to abandon one's heart
The fire inside is one we should never quell
Not chasing your dreams will tear you apart
"Eat right, drink water, get sleep, go like hell!"

Inch by inch, step by step, yard by yard, we progress
With gradual improvement, it is self-pity we repel
The way is hard and the hours long, I confess
"Eat right, drink water, get sleep, go like hell!"

Practice makes perfect, some people say
And to them I reply, "Your advice is stale."
If you want to get ahead in this age and day
"Eat right, drink water, get sleep, go like hell!"

For precise practice makes perfect, my friends
And attention to detail is what I foretell
As the true means to justify the earned ends
"Eat right, drink water, get sleep, go like hell!"

This poem is offered as not only my submission for Three Word Wednesday, but also Wednesday Poetry Prompts with Robert Lee Brewer. How often do we get the elusive Scottish Double (two birds with one stone)? Have a great week!
